CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — A Cartersville man faces multiple felony charges after investigators allegedly uncovered a large-scale crack cocaine distribution operation operating near a public housing complex.

According to the Cartersville Police Department, investigators launched an investigation after receiving information about crack cocaine sales at an apartment located at 51 Ridge Row.

During the investigation, detectives determined that 47-year-old Jarrod Kenta Sheppard was allegedly distributing significant quantities of crack cocaine from the residence.

Authorities said the alleged drug activity was occurring within 1,000 feet of a Housing Authority property, resulting in enhanced criminal charges.

When officers arrested Sheppard, they reportedly found approximately one ounce of crack cocaine in his possession.

Investigators later executed a search warrant at the apartment and recovered an additional quarter kilogram of crack cocaine, according to police. Authorities stated that the quantity seized is consistent with distribution rather than personal use.

Police also recovered a firearm during the investigation.

Sheppard was arrested and charged with:

  • Trafficking in Cocaine
  • Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute Within 1,000 Feet of a Housing Authority
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Willful Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers

Police noted that Sheppard has had previous encounters with Cartersville Police drug investigators.

Cartersville Police Chief Kevin Cloninger credited investigators and community members for helping bring the case to a successful conclusion.

The investigation remains ongoing.
