WINDER, Georgia – A barricaded suspect surrendered peacefully Saturday night following a large law enforcement response in a Winder neighborhood, according to the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the sheriff’s office was assisting the Winder Police Department during the incident in the area of Box Circle.

Authorities said officers responded around 9:12 p.m. May 24 after receiving reports that prompted an active law enforcement operation.

Deputies and officers established a perimeter around the area while residents were urged to avoid the neighborhood and follow instructions from responding personnel.

The BCSO SWAT Team later arrived to assist with the situation.

Following negotiations, the suspect surrendered without incident and was taken into custody, authorities said.

The suspect was identified as 29-year-old Alexander Ciprian Agapi.

No deputies or officers were injured during the response.

Investigators initially charged Agapi with aggravated assault and two counts of terroristic threats. Authorities later announced additional charges, including criminal trespass, simple battery, disorderly conduct, four counts of willful obstruction of law enforcement officers, littering public or private property, public indecency involving a prior conviction, and maintaining a disorderly house.

Officials said additional charges may still be forthcoming as the investigation continues.

Agapi is being held at the Barrow County Detention Center.

Court records show Agapi had recently been released from custody just a day before the barricaded suspect incident. Authorities said he appeared in court on May 22 stemming from a May 5 arrest in which he had originally been charged with loitering/prowling and willful obstruction of law enforcement officers. Prosecutors later dropped those charges, but Agapi was convicted of criminal trespass and theft by taking. He was sentenced to 12 months of probation and released from jail the same day as his court appearance on Friday.
