Man Killed, Officer Injured in Adairsville Officer-Involved Shooting
ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. — A traffic stop early Thursday morning ended in a deadly officer-involved shooting that left a suspect dead and an officer injured, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
The incident occurred around 1:15 a.m. April 23, 2026, when an Adairsville Police Department officer stopped an SUV for speeding on Joe Frank Harris Parkway.
Authorities said the driver, identified as 26-year-old Saeed Ahmed Reed of Clayton County, initially pulled into the entrance of a Mapco gas station. Reed exited the vehicle from the passenger side, walked around to the driver’s side, re-entered the SUV and drove through the parking lot toward another entrance.
The officer stopped the vehicle again, and Reed exited once more and began walking away. Officials said the officer deployed a Taser, but it was ineffective.
According to investigators, Reed then pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired at the officer, striking the officer in the vest.
The officer returned fire, hitting Reed multiple times.
The officer was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was later treated and released.
Reed was also taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities said three other adults and one child were inside the SUV during the incident. None of the passengers were injured.
The GBI has been requested to conduct an independent investigation into the shooting. Once complete, the case will be turned over to the Bartow County District Attorney’s Office for review.
