Brunswick Man Arrested After Attempted Armed Robbery and Assault at Scranton Road Business
BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Officers with the Glynn County Police Department arrested a Brunswick man following an attempted armed robbery that left a store employee assaulted Saturday afternoon.
Police say that on January 31, 2026, at approximately 2:51 p.m., officers responded to a reported robbery at a business in the 700 block of Scranton Road. When officers arrived, a store employee reported being assaulted by a male suspect who attempted to steal cash from the register.
The attempted robbery was unsuccessful, and the suspect fled the scene. During the investigation, officers determined the suspect was armed with a knife at the time of the incident.
Officers deployed a K-9 unit and conducted a search of the surrounding area in an effort to locate the suspect. Detectives and crime scene investigators also responded to assist with evidence collection and follow-up.
As a result of the investigation, detectives identified 29-year-old Joshua Hurtado of Brunswick as the suspect. Hurtado was taken into custody early Sunday morning at a local restaurant and transported to police headquarters for questioning. Investigators later executed search warrants at Hurtado’s residence and on a vehicle connected to the case.
Hurtado was arrested and booked into the Glynn County Detention Center on charges including Criminal Attempt to Commit Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Knife During the Commission of Certain Crimes. Police say he was also arrested on unrelated charges, including First-Degree Burglary and multiple outstanding warrants.
