Habersham County Deputy Disciplined After Patrol Vehicle Crash While Responding to High-Priority Call

HABERSHAM COUNTY, Georgia – A deputy with the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office was evaluated following a two-vehicle crash that occurred on January 22 while he was responding to an emergency call.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Christian Brewer was traveling with emergency lights and siren activated while responding to a high-priority call involving a person reportedly holding a gun to his head with other individuals inside the residence. As Brewer proceeded through the intersection of Pea Ridge Road and Duncan Bridge Road, another vehicle traveling through the intersection struck the deputy’s patrol vehicle.

Authorities stated the other vehicle had a green traffic signal at the time of the collision. Deputy Brewer later reported that he did not see the vehicle as he entered the intersection.

In accordance with department policy, the Georgia State Patrol was requested to investigate the crash. No injuries were reported at the scene. While Brewer was not transported by ambulance, he was taken to the hospital by his supervisor for routine post-accident blood testing.

Following the investigation, the Georgia State Patrol determined that Deputy Brewer was at fault in the collision. As a result, he is receiving disciplinary action that includes a two-day suspension without pay and mandatory retraining focused on due regard and emergency vehicle operation.

Deputy Brewer was hired by the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office on May 6, 2024, and currently serves in the Uniform Patrol Division.
