Athens Woman Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash

ATHENS, GA – On December 26, 2025, at approximately 10:02 a.m., the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of North Avenue and Strickland Avenue.

Preliminary reports indicate that a 2020 Honda Civic, driven by 53-year-old Dejon Ellis of Athens, was traveling northbound on North Avenue when the vehicle failed to navigate a curve. The car mounted the sidewalk, traveled up an embankment, and struck a power pole before coming to rest. Ellis succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

This tragic crash marks the 10th fatal accident in Athens-Clarke County this year, bringing the total number of deaths in 2025 to 14. ACCPD noted that in the past week alone, three fatal crashes claimed six lives.

The Traffic Enforcement Unit urges drivers to maintain safe speeds, stay attentive while driving, and always wear seat belts.
