Athens Police Identify Suspect, Issue Murder Warrants in Fatal Shooting on West Broad Street
Athens-Clarke County Police are continuing their investigation into a deadly incident that claimed the life of a 26-year-old man early Thursday morning.
At approximately 2:23 a.m. on December 18, officers responded to a “person down” call in the area of West Broad Street and Pulaski Street in Athens. When officers arrived, they found a male lying in the roadway. He was later identified as Anargyros Mantas, 26.
Mantas was transported to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment, but despite lifesaving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
As the investigation progressed, ACCPD identified a suspect believed to be responsible for the shooting. Warrants have now been obtained for Jamarioun Clark, a 22-year-old man from Madison, Georgia. Clark is wanted on multiple charges connected to this incident, including aggravated assault, felony murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Police say the investigation remains active and ongoing as detectives work to locate Clark and gather additional information related to the case.
