Woman Shot by Officers After Firing at Them in Lithonia

UPDATE: The woman who exchanged gunfire with the officers has been identified as Shkinnia Patrice Thomas, age 45, of Riverdale, GA.  The GBI is investigating the officer involved shooting and the DeKalb County Police Department is investigating the hostage situation.

DeKalb County, GA – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is looking into an officer-involved shooting in Lithonia, GA, at the request of the DeKalb County Police Department. One woman was injured, and one officer was struck in the vest but did not require medical attention.

Preliminary reports indicate that on Friday, November 21st, at approximately 5:34 a.m., DeKalb County 911 received a call from a woman claiming she was being held against her will at a home on Errol Drive, with children present. Officers arriving on scene were alerted via radio that a “person shot” had been reported.

Upon entering the home, officers encountered a woman armed with a handgun. She allegedly fired at officers, hitting one officer in the vest. Officers returned fire, striking the woman. A search of the home revealed an elderly couple, who were unharmed, and no children were present.

The woman who exchanged gunfire with officers was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition. The officer who was shot did not require treatment.

Once the investigation concludes, the case will be forwarded to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
