Two 18-Year-Olds Charged in Fatal Savannah Shooting on W. 57th Street

SAVANNAH – Authorities have charged two men in connection with a September fatal shooting in the 700 block of W. 57th Street.

Marcus Thomas, 18, was taken into custody on Nov. 12 by the U.S. Marshals Service. The next day, Caesar Thompkins Jr., 18, turned himself in to the Marshals.

Thomas is charged with murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Thompkins is charged with murder and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Police were called to W. 57th Street on Sept. 18 at about 3:36 p.m. Officers found an unresponsive juvenile inside a residence with a gunshot wound. A traffic stop was also conducted at W. 63rd Street and Montgomery Street on a vehicle leaving the scene. Thomas, who had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, was inside the vehicle.

Both the juvenile and Thomas were taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center. The juvenile later died from the injury.
