Swainsboro Man Dies in Head-On Collision on US Highway 1 South

Toombs County authorities reported a fatal head-on collision on US Highway 1 South near Green Oak Road on Tuesday, November 19, 2025.

At approximately 8:00 p.m., 911 dispatch received reports of a wreck involving a white Ford truck and a white van. Deputies identified the truck driver as 86-year-old Oliver Coleman of Swainsboro and the van driver as 71-year-old Yolanda Orozco-Delgado of Lyons.

Emergency responders found both drivers trapped in their vehicles. Toombs County Fire personnel extricated the drivers, and Toombs-Montgomery EMS provided immediate aid. Orozco-Delgado was airlifted by Air Evac to Savannah in critical condition, while Coleman was transported to Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia, where he later died from his injuries.

Preliminary investigation by the Georgia State Patrol indicates Coleman’s truck veered into the southbound lane, striking Orozco-Delgado’s van head-on. Authorities believe Coleman may have suffered a medical issue that caused him to lose control of the vehicle.

The Georgia State Patrol, Post 18 in Reidsville, is continuing the investigation. Officials ask the public to keep both families in their thoughts during this difficult time.
