Three Sentenced to Life for 2024 Shooting Death of Teen in Columbus

Three men have been sentenced for the 2024 shooting death of 16-year-old Dennie Henderson outside the Springhill Suites on Whittlesey Boulevard.

On Thursday, November 7, 2025, Ty’Quavious Richmond, Patrick Montgomery, Jr., and Dereon Montgomery each received life sentences with the possibility of parole, plus five additional years for possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The convictions followed an October 3, 2025, verdict by a Muscogee County jury, which found all three guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. The trial began on September 29, 2025.

According to police reports, Henderson was shot multiple times on March 24, 2024, in the parking lot of the Springhill Suites. Investigators determined that Richmond, Montgomery, Jr., and Montgomery acted together in the shooting. Evidence collected confirmed their involvement.

A warrant was issued for Ty’Quavious Richmond on May 15, 2024, and he was arrested the next day. Patrick Montgomery, Jr. and Dereon Montgomery were arrested in Lee County, Alabama, on September 17, 2024, and extradited to Columbus on September 18, 2024.

The case was led by the Violent Crimes Unit, with support from the Digital Forensics Unit and the Real Time Crime Center. The Columbus Police Department acknowledged the District Attorney’s Office for their work in prosecuting the case and securing convictions.
