Bibb County H.E.A.T. Unit Uses PIT Maneuver to Stop Speeding Driver on I-75
Bibb County Sheriff’s Office H.E.A.T. Unit Cpl. Shane Smith arrested a driver on multiple charges after a pursuit on Interstate 75.
According to the incident report, Cpl. Smith observed a Honda Accord entering I-75 at Hartley Bridge Road traveling at a high rate of speed. Radar confirmed the vehicle was moving at approximately 90 mph. The driver changed lanes abruptly, moving in front of the H.E.A.T. Unit patrol vehicle.
Cpl. Smith activated his emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop. The driver initially slowed down but refused to pull over. After a brief pursuit, Cpl. Smith executed a low-speed PIT maneuver, safely bringing the vehicle to a stop.
The driver was taken into custody without incident. The report stated that the vehicle was uninsured, the registration was suspended, and the driver did not have a valid license. Deputies also located a bag of marijuana on the front seat next to the driver.
The driver was transported to the Bibb County Jail on multiple traffic and drug-related charges.
