Macon-Bibb County Taps PBK Architects to Design New Multi-Purpose Arena

MACON, Ga. – On Tuesday, September 23, the Macon-Bibb County Commission unanimously approved PBK Architects to lead the design and planning of a new, nearly 200,000-square-foot arena at the Macon Centreplex site.

The project, overseen by MFA Management of Memphis, TN, will be guided by PBK’s 42 years of experience in architectural design. The firm has designed 80 indoor arenas, completed over 18,000 projects, and earned more than 450 design awards. MFA Management played a key role in selecting PBK through a competitive RFQ process and presented the firm to the Commission for approval.

“This arena isn’t just a venue,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “It’s an economic engine that will create opportunities, attract visitors, and keep our city competitive for years to come.”

PBK Architects will work alongside MFA Project Executive Will Christenbury, who will reside in Macon during the project, to design a versatile space capable of hosting sports tournaments, ice rinks, conventions, indoor concerts, and more.

Construction is slated to begin in July 2026, with completion expected by June 2028. Director of Planning and Public Spaces Alex Morrison emphasized the importance of selecting the right design team. “We’ve answered the what—a new arena, and the when—as soon as possible. Now we must determine the who before moving on to the how.”

PBK’s COO, Dan Springer, highlighted the firm’s commitment: “PBK is committed to delivering this project on time, on budget, and in a way that will be unmistakably Macon.”

The new arena is expected to serve as a hub for events and a driver for economic growth in the region.
