Albany Police Investigating Domestic-Related Homicide, Suspect Found Dead

ALBANY, Ga. — A woman was killed and another man injured in a domestic-related shooting early Friday morning in Albany, according to police.

Officers responded to the 1400 block of Lee Street before 3 a.m. on September 19 and found 50-year-old Leigh Dyson deceased inside a vehicle from an apparent gunshot wound.

Investigators said 29-year-old Phares Taylor Jr. was also fired upon during the incident. He fled the scene and later received medical treatment for a minor injury. Police consider him a victim in the case.

The suspect, identified as 56-year-old Allen Dyson, fled after the shooting. Officers obtained arrest and search warrants, and the Lee County SWAT team was activated. Dyson was later found dead at his residence from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Multiple firearms were recovered from the home.

Authorities are investigating the case as a domestic-related homicide and aggravated assault. The case is considered cleared by the offender’s death.
