Jones County Man Arrested After Hit-and-Run Leaves Teen Injured

On Thursday morning, September 4, 2025, Sergeant Walker of the Jones County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on New Clinton Road near Sun Valley Drive regarding a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
Deputies found a 19-year-old male who said he was walking with a friend along the roadside when a passing vehicle struck him, knocking him into a ditch and out of one of his shoes. The driver did not stop and fled the scene.
During the investigation, Sgt. Walker discovered a side mirror belonging to a Toyota 4Runner at the scene. Using license plate reader data, he identified a nearby vehicle matching the description. Deputies located the 4Runner at a residence with visible passenger-side damage and a missing mirror.
The driver, identified as Giovanni Nunez, was found asleep behind the wheel. After further investigation, Nunez was arrested and charged with DUI, Reckless Driving, Hit & Run, and other related offenses.
The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.
