SAVANNAH, GA — A Savannah jury has found 43-year-old Nicholas James Kassotis guilty on all 12 counts in the killing and dismemberment of his wife, Mindi Mebane Kassotis.

Kassotis was convicted of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, concealing a death, possession of a knife during a felony, possession of tools during a crime, removal of body parts, and tampering with evidence. The jury’s verdict was unanimous.

He was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 25 consecutive years. “This case has revealed a level of depravity that truly shocks the conscience,” the judge said. Kassotis declined to address the court.

Mindi Kassotis, 40, was found on December 2, 2022, on a hunting club spanning Liberty and McIntosh Counties. At the time, the couple lived in Savannah.

The investigation involved GBI agents and the FBI, which used genealogy DNA to identify Mindi Kassotis on May 11, 2023. Family members provided DNA samples that helped confirm the identification.

The state argued for life without parole, citing the horrific nature of the crime, while the defense requested a life sentence with the possibility of parole.
