Georgia Jobless Rate Falls in Most Regions for July

ATLANTA — Unemployment fell across most of Georgia’s 12 regional commissions in July, the Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday.
Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes said the numbers reflect the state’s resilient workforce and business climate. “July’s unemployment numbers show progress across most metro areas, and even where there are slight upticks, year-over-year trends reflect our resilience,” she said.
Highlights include:
- Atlanta Metro: 3.5% unemployment, down from 3.6% last month and 3.8% a year ago.
- Coastal Georgia: 3.3%, down from 3.4% last month.
- Georgia Mountains: 3.2%, down one-tenth over the month.
- Northeast Georgia: 3.5%, down from 3.6%.
Some regions saw small increases. Heart of Georgia rose to 4.4% from 4.3%, Southern Georgia edged up to 4.1%, and Northwest Georgia increased to 3.8%.
Holmes said the state’s focus on workforce investment and a strong business environment continues to drive economic growth and job opportunities across Georgia.
