Teen Arrested After False Active Shooter Threat at High Schools in Newton County

COVINGTON, Ga. – A 16-year-old has been arrested after making a false report of an active shooter at Alcovy High School on Friday morning, August 22.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., an anonymous caller reported an active shooter at Alcovy High School and also referenced Eastside High School in Covington. Newton County deputies immediately responded to both campuses and confirmed there was no threat at either location.

As a precaution, Alcovy High School was placed on lockdown while the Newton County Criminal Investigations Division launched an investigation. Deputies later identified and arrested a 16-year-old suspect in connection with the hoax.

The teen faces charges of making a false report of a crime, tampering with evidence, and transmitting a false public alarm. No weapons were found at Alcovy High School, and the case has been referred to the Juvenile Court System.
