Quitman County Man Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting During Assault Call

On Monday, August 11, 2025, at approximately 8:30 a.m., the Quitman County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Lucy Lane after a woman reported being attacked. During the incident, 41-year-old Maurice Snapp of Abbeville, Alabama, attacked Sheriff Charles Davis, who then discharged his weapon, fatally striking Snapp.

No officers were injured in the shooting. Snapp was pronounced dead at the scene. A GBI Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is leading the active investigation at the request of the Quitman County Sheriff’s Office.

Once the investigation concludes, it will be turned over to the Pataula County Judicial Circuit for review.
