Roswell Man Sentenced to 17 Months for Threatening Former FBI Director

ROSWELL, GA — John Woodbury, 35, of Roswell, Georgia, has been sentenced to 17 months in federal prison for transmitting threats to injure then-FBI Director Christopher Wray. The sentencing was handed down by United States District Judge Sarah E. Geraghty on July 24, 2025. Woodbury will also serve three years of supervised release following his prison term.
Woodbury pleaded guilty to transmitting a threat in interstate commerce on April 18, 2025.
According to court documents, on June 7, 2023, Woodbury posted a violent message on the website 4chan.org. In his post, he included what he claimed was Director Wray’s home address and wrote threatening statements targeting Wray and his family.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg stated, “My office has zero tolerance for threats against law enforcement officers. Threatening to harm public servants who enforce our criminal laws weakens the foundation of our society and will be punished accordingly.”
FBI Atlanta Special Agent in Charge Paul Brown added, “The sentencing of John Woodbury is yet another example of the FBI’s commitment to holding those accountable who threaten public officials.”
