Stolen Ambulance Pursuit Ends in Crash, Two Arrests in Effingham County

A two-car accident escalated into a high-speed pursuit of a stolen ambulance in Effingham County on Monday, June 9th, just after 4 PM, leading to the arrest of two unidentified suspects. One Rincon police officer sustained minor injuries during the chase.
The incident began when Effingham County Sheriff’s Deputies requested assistance from Rincon Officers at the scene of a two-car accident where two individuals had fled on foot. One suspect ran towards Goshen Road, and the other towards McCall Road.
As Rincon officers headed towards McCall Road, they were flagged down near Davis Tire and informed that an ambulance had been forcibly stolen. Rincon officers initiated a pursuit of the stolen ambulance, which continued for several miles into Port Wentworth. During the chase, the driver of the ambulance intentionally collided with a Rincon officer’s vehicle, causing it to crash into another vehicle and resulting in minor injuries to the officer.
Rincon officers attempted a Precision Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver without success. Officers from Port Wentworth deployed spike strips in an effort to safely end the dangerous situation. The pursuit ultimately concluded when the ambulance lost control and crashed into a ditch, just past the intersection of Saussy Road and Highway 21. Both suspects were then apprehended and transported to the Effingham County Jail. Their identities have not yet been released.
Authorities attributed the successful apprehension to the strong collaborative relationships between the Rincon Police Department and neighboring agencies, including the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, Effingham Fire Department, Effingham Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Georgia State Patrol, and Port Wentworth Police.
