Macon Men Charged After Breaking Into Animal Shelter to Reclaim Dog Scheduled for Euthanasia

On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, investigators with the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with the United States Marshals Service and the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, arrested James and Donald Spicer of Macon, Georgia, on outstanding warrants for Burglary in the 2nd Degree.

The arrests follow an investigation into a break-in at the Jones County Animal Shelter that occurred over the previous weekend. According to authorities, two individuals unlawfully entered the facility and removed a dog that had been scheduled for euthanasia due to a prior biting incident.

Investigators later identified the suspects as the dog’s former owners, who allegedly took the animal without authorization.

The Jones County Sheriff’s Office expressed appreciation to all agencies involved in the apprehension of the suspects.
