The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Glynn County on Monday, May 12, 2025. The investigation was requested by the Glynn County Police Department.

Preliminary information indicates that Glynn County Police Department officers were searching for 51-year-old Shannon Melvin Tanner of Brunswick, GA, who was a suspect in an armed robbery investigation. Officers located Tanner in his car on Georgia Highway 99 in Glynn County.

According to the GBI, Tanner then drove his vehicle towards a Glynn County Police Department (GCPD) detective’s police car. In response, the detective fired a shot at Tanner’s approaching vehicle. Neither Tanner nor the detective sustained any injuries during this initial encounter.

No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting. Upon completion, the findings will be submitted to the Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
