Stolen Kia Driver Leads Bibb County Deputies on Chase, Crashes, and is Apprehended

Bibb County Sheriff’s Office S.R.T. Unit deputies recently located a stolen Kia Optima off Mercer University Drive and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, which resulted in a pursuit and multiple arrests.

According to a sheriff’s office report, the driver of the stolen Kia sped away from deputies, repeatedly driving into oncoming traffic and refusing to stop. The dangerous pursuit came to an end when the Kia crashed during a sharp turn on Chambers Road.

Following the crash, the driver attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by deputies. The passenger in the stolen vehicle was also taken into custody after deputies discovered they were wanted on outstanding warrants.

A firearm was located inside the stolen Kia Optima. Both suspects were transported to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. They face charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police for a felony offense, theft by receiving stolen property, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
