Armed Robbery Suspect Crashes After Officer-Involved Shooting in Brunswick Pursuit

The Glynn County Police Department is investigating an armed robbery and subsequent vehicle pursuit involving 45-year-old Shannon Melvin Tanner, who allegedly robbed the T.J. Maxx store at 151 Golden Isles Plaza on Sunday, May 11, 2025.
According to police, Tanner entered the store and handed a note to a cashier demanding money while brandishing a firearm. He fled with approximately $980 in cash.
On the morning of Monday, May 12, at around 11:39 a.m., detectives located Tanner’s vehicle on a dirt road near Highway 99 and Golden Isles Parkway. As a detective approached, Tanner allegedly accelerated toward the detective’s vehicle, prompting the officer to fire one shot. No injuries were reported, and the patrol vehicle was not hit.
Tanner fled the scene in his vehicle, leading officers on a pursuit that ended when he lost control and crashed on I-95 southbound near mile marker 35. He was taken into custody and transported to Southeast Georgia Health System for injuries sustained in the crash.
Glynn County Police requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to review the officer-involved shooting. The Georgia State Patrol is handling the crash investigation, while the GCPD Office of Professional Standards and Accountability will conduct an internal administrative review.
