East Point Police Identify Suspect in Brutal Stranger-on-Stranger Sexual Assault from February 2024

Despite a 30% overall decrease in crime, excluding homicides where the clearance rate remains at 94%, the East Point Police Department is highlighting a particularly horrific stranger-on-stranger sexual assault case that occurred in February 2024.

Chief Buchanan described the incident as one of the most shocking he has encountered in his 26 years of service. East Point Police detectives reportedly worked tirelessly around the clock to identify the perpetrator who viciously attacked a female victim passing through the city. The victim was subjected to a brutal sexual assault and beaten nearly to death before being left for dead.

After over a year of investigation, detectives developed a significant lead that identified Mr. Elton Taylor as the suspect. Authorities state that Mr. Taylor has an extensive criminal record involving similar offenses.

In an unusual step, the East Point Police Department has released an image of Mr. Taylor, stating that while they typically refrain from sharing suspect images, the severity of this crime necessitates public awareness in case of his future release. They will reportedly always consider him a danger to the public.

Mr. Taylor is currently being held in Fulton County Jail awaiting trial. The victim, fortunately, survived the attack and is currently in the process of recovery.
