Advocate Health Appoints Steve Smoot as President of North Carolina and Georgia Division

Advocate Health has appointed Steve Smoot, FACHE, as President of its North Carolina and Georgia Division, effective June 2, 2025. In this role, Smoot will lead strategic priorities, operational excellence, and community engagement across both states, aligning with the organization’s overall mission.

Smoot replaces Ken Haynes, who was recently promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Enterprise Services Officer for Advocate Health.

Smoot brings over 25 years of health care leadership experience. Most recently, he served as Chief Operating Officer for SSM Health, overseeing hospital, medical group, and business operations across Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin. During his tenure, he led operations for 23 hospitals and more than 300 physician offices.

Prior to SSM Health, Smoot was Associate Chief Operating Officer at Intermountain Healthcare, where he oversaw 23 hospitals, including a Level 1 Trauma Center and a Children’s Hospital.

Smoot earned a bachelor’s degree in hospital administration from Weber State University and a Master of Business Administration from Brigham Young University. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a two-time recipient of the ACHE Regents Award.

He and his wife have five daughters, one granddaughter, and four grandsons. In his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities.
