Guitar-Shaped Terminal at Middle Georgia Regional Airport Reaches Major Construction Milestone

MACON, Ga. – Construction of the new music-inspired executive terminal at Middle Georgia Regional Airport has reached a major milestone, with crews placing the final structural beam on a project expected to be completed in May 2027.

Macon-Bibb County, airport officials, Sheridan Construction and other project partners gathered Aug. 31 for a topping out ceremony marking completion of the terminal’s primary structural framework.

The new Fixed Base Operator, or FBO, executive terminal features a distinctive design inspired by a guitar and piano, incorporating Macon’s musical history into a building that will serve private and corporate aviation customers arriving in Middle Georgia.

“This is a first impression. This is the place they’ll see first, and when they come into this building, they’ll recognize our musical heritage pretty quickly,” Middle Georgia Regional Airport Aviation Director Doug Faour said.

Faour described the terminal as a community project rather than simply an airport improvement, with its design intended to introduce arriving visitors to Macon’s identity before they leave the airport.

The project is also generating construction jobs and using materials produced locally and elsewhere in Georgia, according to Sheridan Construction President and CEO Christy Kovac.

“The workforce development this project has brought to Macon, along with the purchase of local and Georgia-made materials, has had a huge impact,” Kovac said.

Mayor Lester Miller said the terminal is part of broader investment in the airport’s role in economic development, tourism and transportation.

“Our airport is an important part of our growth, from economic development and tourism to the way we connect with the rest of the world,” Miller said.

Construction will continue through the coming months, with the new executive terminal scheduled for completion in May 2027.
