Fugitive Wanted for Armed Robbery Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting in Atlanta

On Thursday, April 24, 2025, at approximately 12:50 PM, Fulton County Police Officers responded to a report of suspicious individuals loitering at a known drug location in the 3600 block of Martin Luther King Junior Drive.

Upon arrival, officers observed several individuals in the parking lot. When officers attempted to make contact, one of the individuals, identified as Damario Smith, fled on foot and entered a nearby vehicle. Officers gave verbal commands for Smith to turn off the vehicle and show his hands. Smith refused to comply and reportedly reached down, producing a handgun, which prompted officers to discharge their firearms.

Officers immediately administered CPR to Smith, who was then transported to Grady Hospital. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Authorities revealed that Damario Smith was wanted for Armed Robbery and Aggravated Assault. He had been out on bond since 2022 with an ankle monitor but had removed it and been on the run.

The Fulton County Police Department thanked the Atlanta Police Department and the Fulton County Marshal’s Department for their assistance during the incident.
