Toombs County Grand Jury Indicts Parents in Death of 4-Year-Old Reese Hughes

A Toombs County Grand Jury has indicted Seth Hunter Brown and Taylor Marie Hughes on multiple charges, including Malice Murder and Felony Murder, in connection with the death of Hughes’ four-year-old daughter, Reese Hughes. The indictments were returned on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, and announced by Superior Court Judge Tommy Smith.

The charges against Brown and Hughes include two counts each of Malice Murder and Felony Murder, as well as two counts of Cruelty to Children in the First Degree and two counts of Aggravated Battery. These charges stem from the death of Reese Hughes on March 14, 2025.

The Toombs County Sheriff’s Office led the investigation, with assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 12 Office and the Middle Judicial Circuit District Attorney Tripp Fitzner’s Office. Sheriff Jordan Kight expressed gratitude to his staff, the GBI, and the District Attorney’s Office for their tireless work on the case, noting that the indictment within 39 days of the arrest demonstrates their dedication and teamwork.
