Clayton County District Attorney Announces Erroneous Release of Convicted Murderer
Kathan Guzman

District Attorney Tasha M. Mosley has issued a statement regarding the erroneous release of Kathan Guzman, who was convicted of felony murder in the death of Ms. Delia Grayson.

Guzman was found guilty by a trial jury on October 25, 2024, and was sentenced on the same day to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

On April 8, 2025, around noon, the Victim Assistance Unit of the District Attorney’s Office was notified by the Georgia Office of Victim Services that they could not locate Guzman within the Georgia penal system. Subsequent checks by the District Attorney’s Office revealed that Guzman appeared to have been released from the Clayton County Jail.

Upon confirming the erroneous release with the Sheriff’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office immediately contacted the victim’s mother and has maintained communication with her.

District Attorney Mosley stated that while the management and transport of inmates fall outside the purview of the District Attorney’s Office, she has been informed that all available resources are being utilized to locate Guzman. She expressed her sincere hope that Guzman will be quickly re-apprehended and will serve the entirety of his life sentence.
