GBI Investigating Fatal Shooting of Sylvania Man in Screven County

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating the death of 21-year-old Isaiah Barbee, Jr., of Sylvania, Georgia, following a shooting incident in Newington. The Screven County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI’s assistance with the investigation.
On April 7, 2025, at approximately 12:55 p.m., Screven County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting on Simpson Town Road in Newington. Upon arrival, they discovered Barbee with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital but was later pronounced dead.
Barbee’s body will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Pooler, Georgia, for an autopsy by a Medical Examiner.
The GBI investigation into this incident is active and ongoing.
