Sandy Springs Child Abduction Victim Recovered Safely in Florida; Suspect Arrested

A 17-year-old child abduction suspect, Camilo Campagna, has been apprehended in St. Joe Beach, Florida, and the abducted child has been recovered safely, thanks to the collaborative efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies.

On Sunday, March 30th, at approximately 1:15 PM, the Sandy Springs Police Department contacted the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office in Florida with urgent information regarding a child abduction case originating in Sandy Springs, Georgia. They provided a possible location of the suspect in Gulf County, along with critical details: the suspect was believed to be armed and traveling in a white Mercedes SUV.

Acting swiftly on this information, the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle and initiated a felony traffic stop at the intersection of Hwy 98 and Selma Street in St. Joe Beach, Florida. The Gulf County Sheriff’s Office, Port Saint Joe Police Department, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), and Florida Highway Patrol all participated in the successful operation.

The abducted child was found safe at the location.

Camilo Campagna was taken into custody on warrants issued from the state of Georgia. He faces serious charges, including:

  • Child pornography
  • Aggravated child molestation
  • Child molestation – victim between 14 and 16
  • Possession of child pornography
  • Possession of sexually explicit content
  • Grooming of a minor
  • Loitering and prowling

Due to his age, Campagna will be detained at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Bay County, Florida, pending extradition to Georgia.
