Gainesville Man Arrested for Meth Trafficking Following Traffic Stop

A Gainesville man has been arrested on methamphetamine trafficking charges following an investigation that also led to a significant drug bust and an additional arrest in Madison County.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies and Special Investigations Unit (SIU) investigators charged Trevor Wade Southers, 24, with trafficking methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

According to authorities, deputies stopped an SUV at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, at the intersection of Mundy Mill Road and Creekside Place for failure to maintain its lane. During the stop, deputies discovered approximately 1,045 grams (2.3 pounds) of methamphetamine in the vehicle. SIU investigators determined that the drugs, valued at approximately $78,200, belonged to Southers, who was a passenger in the SUV.

During the course of the investigation, SIU developed intelligence about methamphetamine at a residence in Madison County. The information was relayed to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), which conducted a concurrent investigation on March 20. As a result, MCSO investigators arrested another individual and seized approximately four pounds of methamphetamine, multiple firearms, and cash.

Southers was taken into custody at the scene of the traffic stop, and authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
