Macon-Bibb Fire Department Warns Against Driving Over Fire Hoses

The Macon-Bibb County Fire Department is reminding drivers that it is illegal and dangerous to drive over a fire hose in Georgia under O.C.G.A. 40-6-248.
According to the department, running over a fire hose can cause it to burst, cutting off the water supply needed to fight fires. It can also damage fire engines, hydrants, and even drag the hose along the roadway, creating hazards for firefighters and bystanders. Fire hoses carry high-pressure water, and a rupture can lead to serious injuries.
Even if a hose appears unused, driving over it requires it to be taken out of service for testing, delaying its availability for emergencies. The fire department advises drivers to avoid fire hoses in the roadway and, if necessary, seek guidance from firefighters or law enforcement on alternative routes.
Violating this law not only carries legal consequences but also endangers first responders and those in need of rescue.
