Man Wanted for Attempted Murder in Florida Arrested After Chase in Hall County

A man wanted in Florida for attempted second-degree murder with a firearm was arrested on March 19, 2025, following a brief vehicle pursuit and foot chase in the Athens Street area.
Wesley Ramone Knight, 46, who provided a Gainesville, Georgia, address in booking records, is currently being held at the Hall County Jail on multiple local traffic charges, as well as a hold for Florida authorities.
Pursuit and Arrest
At approximately 10:10 a.m. Wednesday, Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies on routine patrol spotted Knight’s 2007 Audi A4 2.0T but lost sight of it. Moments later, another deputy located the northbound vehicle on U.S. 129/Athens Highway.
With blue lights and sirens activated, deputies attempted to stop Knight, who turned onto Monroe Drive, passing another vehicle over a double-yellow line. He ran a stop sign at Athens Street, prompting a deputy from the HCSO Traffic Unit to initiate a pursuit due to the severity of the warrant.
Knight then cut through a parking lot in the 1400 block of Athens Street, abandoned his vehicle, and ran toward Harrison Square Apartments. Deputies and Gainesville Police Department officers quickly apprehended him.
Charges and Investigation
Knight faces multiple Hall County charges, including:
- Reckless conduct
- Fleeing or attempting to elude
- Reckless driving
- Failure to stop at a stop sign
- Passing in a no-passing zone
When Knight fled on foot, his abandoned vehicle rolled into a parked car. The Georgia State Patrol handled the crash investigation.
Knight’s Florida warrant was issued by the Leesburg Police Department (LPD) in Lake County and includes an additional charge of aggravated battery with a firearm. He remains in custody, awaiting extradition proceedings.
