On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, a Walker County Schools employee discovered a plastic baggie containing a suspicious substance on the floor just inside the main entryway of North LaFayette Elementary School. The employee immediately turned the item over to the School Resource Officer.

Field testing confirmed the substance was methamphetamine, and it was secured as evidence. The School Resource Officer began an investigation alongside the Walker County Schools Facilities and Operations Department.

While reviewing the school’s security camera footage, officers observed a man accidentally dropping the baggie from his front pocket while attempting to retrieve his cell phone. Investigators identified the vehicle the man had exited, which led to identifying the suspect as Connor Shelton McCulley of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Authorities determined McCulley was on campus to drop off his girlfriend’s child. Warrants were obtained through the Walker County Magistrate’s Office for Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Controlled Substance on a School Campus, and Reckless Conduct.

On March 13, 2025, at approximately 9:00 a.m., officers from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee apprehended McCulley. He is currently awaiting extradition to Walker County.
