Dublin Man Arrested for Murder of Ex-Girlfriend

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested Lenton OBryant Jones, 37, also known as Kobe Bryant Jones, in connection with the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend, 31-year-old Detrenell Michelle Downing. Jones faces charges of Malice Murder, two counts of Cruelty to Children in the 1st Degree, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.

On Friday, March 7, 2025, at approximately 5:20 a.m., officers from the Dublin Police Department responded to a shooting at the Hillcrest Apartment Complex in the 200 block of Hillcrest Drive. Upon arrival, officers found Downing deceased in the parking lot from a gunshot wound. Downing was a resident of the apartment complex.

Investigators determined that Jones, Downing’s ex-boyfriend, confronted her outside her apartment before shooting her.

On March 10, 2025, Jones turned himself in at the Dublin Police Department and was taken to the Laurens County Detention Center.

Downing’s body was transported to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy as the investigation continues.
