Two Macon Men Arrested for Aggravated Assault on Police Officer Following Car Chase

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested Gregory Bernard Staten Jr., 34, and Jamaine Antwon Sims, 28, both of Macon, GA, in connection with an aggravated assault on a police officer during a car chase in Macon, GA. The arrests followed a joint investigation by the GBI Middle Georgia Gang Task Force (MGGTF) and the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

Sims was arrested on October 28, 2024, and charged with Aggravated Assault on a Public Safety Officer and Party to the Crime of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. Staten was arrested on January 28, 2025, and charged with Aggravated Assault on a Public Safety Officer and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.

The investigation began after a GSP trooper attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle in Macon. The driver fled, and during the chase, occupants of the car fired shots at the troopers. Although no troopers were injured, the car was lost during the pursuit and later found abandoned.

GBI agents identified Sims and Staten as occupants of the vehicle and obtained arrest warrants for both. Sims was arrested with the assistance of the Georgia State Patrol and U.S. Marshals Service, while Staten was arrested with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Both suspects were booked into the Bibb County Jail. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming.
