Georgia’s Aerospace Industry Expands With Job Growth and Innovation

Aerospace products remain Georgia’s top export, driving the state’s second-largest manufacturing industry. Since 2015, more than 40 aerospace-related facilities have opened or expanded across the state, creating over 2,500 jobs.

Metro Atlanta serves as a national hub for aerospace and defense innovation, with major industry leaders such as Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and Delta Air Lines anchoring the region. The area also supports start-ups and growing companies, fostering advancements in aerospace technology.

A partnership between public and private stakeholders, led by the Metro Atlanta Chamber, has helped fuel industry expansion. Georgia offers research and development tax credits and job creation incentives, contributing to a 14% increase in aerospace and defense companies in 2024.

Georgia Tech’s Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering, ranked second in the nation, continues to supply skilled engineers for the industry. The Technical College System of Georgia also provides workforce training programs, including Delta TechOps, the country’s largest maintenance repair and overhaul facility.

With more than 800 aerospace companies operating in the state, including the recently added PBS Aerospace, Georgia’s aerospace sector generates a $57.5 billion economic impact. The industry is projected to grow by 15%, reinforcing Georgia’s role as a leader in aerospace innovation and manufacturing.
