Man Shoots Himself After Hours-Long Standoff with Gwinnett County Police

A man who threatened to take his own life shot himself after an hours-long negotiation with Gwinnett County Police on Wednesday, January 29th, at 175 Gwinnett Drive in Lawrenceville.
Officers initially responded after the man informed counselors at the location that he was suicidal and intended to shoot himself. When officers arrived, they offered to transport him to a local hospital for assistance. As they escorted him to a patrol car, he pulled out a handgun and held it to his head.
Police negotiated with the man for several hours, attempting to de-escalate the situation. While officers were using less-lethal force in an attempt to subdue him, the man shot himself. He was immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment.
