Two Fatalities Confirmed in Crawfordville Residential Fire, Investigation Underway

A tragic residential fire on Greensboro Road has left two dead and is currently under investigation by local and state authorities. The fire, which occurred on Wednesday, January 22, was discovered in the early afternoon, and the Wilkes County Fire Department, along with other emergency services, responded to the scene at approximately 1:00 PM.

Upon arrival, responders found the residence fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters worked to contain the blaze, and once the fire was extinguished, the bodies of two occupants were discovered inside. Both victims have been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Crime Lab for autopsy and positive identification.

Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King confirmed that no foul play is suspected at this time, although the cause of the fire remains undetermined. King added that the investigation is ongoing, with no conclusions drawn as to the origin of the fire yet.

The Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office, the Wilkes County Coroner’s Office, the Tyrone Fire Department, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office are all working together on the investigation.

A statement from the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office expressed condolences to the families involved and recognized the difficulty faced by public safety personnel who responded to the scene. This fire marks the third fire-related fatality in the area this month.
