Child Found Deceased in Dacula House Fire; Cause Under Investigation

Gwinnett County firefighters responded at 5:04 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, to a report of a house fire on the 2700 block of Freeman Mill Road in Dacula. A 911 caller reported their daughter’s house was on fire, while another caller stated the fire was large and visible from Eastside Drive.
Fire crews arrived at 5:12 a.m. to find an 800-square-foot structure with multiple additions engulfed in flames. Due to the intensity of the fire and a partial structural collapse, firefighters were initially unable to enter the building. Crews connected to a nearby fire hydrant and deployed several hose lines to contain the blaze.
A bystander informed firefighters that a child was unaccounted for and potentially inside the structure. Once conditions improved, crews conducted a search and located one deceased victim.
The structure sustained extensive fire damage. No other injuries were reported. Additional responders included a Gwinnett County Police Chaplain, Fire and Emergency Services Chaplain, and the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire. The victim’s body has been turned over to the Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination.
