Gunfire Exchange During Armed Robbery Pursuit in Athens-Clarke County Leads to One Suspect’s Injury

On January 14, 2025, at approximately 2:24 PM, Athens-Clarke County Police and Clarke County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported armed robbery in the 400 block of North Avenue.

The suspect vehicle was quickly identified and located on Commerce Road, prompting a pursuit that continued onto Newton Bridge Road. During the chase, two suspects fled the vehicle on foot and were pursued by law enforcement.

In the course of the pursuit, a deputy fired at one of the suspects, striking the individual. Immediate medical assistance was provided, and the suspect was transported by EMS to a local hospital. The second suspect was apprehended without further incident.

At the scene, law enforcement recovered two firearms. In line with department policy, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken over the investigation.
