Columbus Driver Arrested for December Fatal Pedestrian Crash
Columbus Police have arrested James Lane, 35, in connection with the fatal pedestrian accident that occurred on December 10, 2024, in the 3600 block of Victory Drive. Lane has been charged with Homicide by Vehicle 2nd Degree, Drivers to Exercise Due Care in Relation to Pedestrians, and Obstruction.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. on December 10, officers responded to reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, they found 43-year-old Heather Spillers suffering from severe injuries. The Columbus Police Motor Squad took the lead on the investigation.
Spillers was transported to the hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries on December 11, 2024.
Investigators identified Lane as the driver involved in the incident. On January 14, 2025, Lane was arrested and booked on multiple misdemeanor charges related to the fatal incident.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not disclosed additional details regarding the circumstances leading to the crash.
