Teen Arrested in Connection with November Double Homicide on Canaan Drive in Columbus
The Columbus Police Department has made an arrest in a homicide case that occurred on November 27, 2024. Around 12:35 a.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 8300 block of Canaan Drive, where they discovered two male victims with gunshot wounds. One of the victims, 18-year-old J’Mauri Taylor, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second victim, 18-year-old Daijohn Ross, was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital in critical condition.
Despite efforts to save Ross, he succumbed to his injuries on November 29, 2024, and was pronounced dead at 8:19 p.m. The Violent Crimes Unit took the lead in the investigation.
16-year-old Skylar Jones was identified as a suspect in the shooting. On January 2, 2025, Jones was arrested on unrelated charges in Fairburn, Georgia. After being extradited to Columbus, he was detained at the Regional Youth Detention Center.
On January 7, 2025, arrest warrants were served for Jones, charging him with multiple offenses, including two counts of murder (malice and felony), armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, unlawful possession of firearms, and possession of a pistol/revolver under the age of 18.
Jones is scheduled to appear in Recorder’s Court on January 9, 2025, at 8 a.m. The investigation remains ongoing.
