Catoosa County Deputies Involved in Shooting After Suspect Strikes Officer With Vehicle
On December 15, 2024, at approximately 10:25 p.m., deputies from the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shots-fired call at 641 Karen Drive, where a female was reportedly screaming, according to Sheriff Gary R. Sisk.
Upon arrival, deputies encountered a Black male suspect in the driveway beside a running vehicle. When officers approached, the suspect resisted law enforcement, including a Georgia State Patrol Trooper. A taser was deployed but proved ineffective.
The suspect fled into the residence, exited through a side door, and attempted to reverse his vehicle out of the driveway. During the attempt, the suspect struck a deputy positioned in the doorway. In response to the immediate threat, law enforcement officers discharged their firearms, striking the suspect to prevent further harm to the deputy.
The injured deputy was treated at a local hospital and has since been released. The suspect was transported to Erlanger Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is leading the investigation into the incident. As per standard protocol, the deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Sheriff Sisk expressed gratitude for the officers’ professionalism and requested the community’s patience as the GBI conducts a thorough review of the events.
