Georgia DOT Commissioner Elected Vice President of The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials
Russell R. McMurry, P.E., Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT), has been elected as the 2024-2025 vice president of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). AASHTO is a nonprofit organization representing transportation departments across the U.S., the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, working to enhance the nation’s transportation system.
“I’m very honored to have been selected by my peers from across the nation for this role,” said McMurry. He expressed excitement for the opportunity to collaborate on developing policy principles for the upcoming 2026 transportation funding bill, a critical topic for the future of U.S. infrastructure.
McMurry, who began his career at Georgia DOT in 1990, has served in various leadership positions before being appointed as commissioner in 2015. He manages nearly 4,000 employees with a $4 billion annual budget. As part of his new role at AASHTO, McMurry will continue to serve as commissioner while working alongside Connecticut DOT’s Garrett Eucalitto, AASHTO’s current president.
