Unattended Child Brings Firearm to LaFayette High School
A firearm incident involving a young child unfolded Monday morning at LaFayette High School, Walker County Schools Superintendent Damon Raines reported. The child, left unattended, accessed a handgun from the vehicle they arrived in and approached the school entrance with the firearm.
The School Resource Officer (SRO) was alerted and swiftly intervened, retrieving the firearm without incident. The school did not go into lockdown, as the situation was quickly controlled, allowing regular operations to continue without interruption.
School officials and law enforcement are now coordinating with the child’s family and relevant state agencies. For further information, inquiries are directed to Chris Wallace, Director of Facilities and Operations.
