On November 5, 2024, a Baldwin County jury convicted 30-year-old Rashad Lamont Blackwell of trafficking methamphetamine, crossing guardlines with drugs, and two counts of furnishing prohibited items to inmates. Superior Court Judge Allison T. Burleson sentenced Blackwell to 49 years in prison.

The conviction stems from an incident on May 29, 2023, when Blackwell was caught on prison surveillance cameras at Baldwin State Prison throwing several items over the prison fence. Upon confronting Blackwell, prison officials discovered that he had thrown approximately 128 grams of methamphetamine, cellphones, and tobacco into the facility. Law enforcement later determined that Blackwell had driven from the Metro-Atlanta area to Baldwin County the night of the offense.

Assistant District Attorney Sydney Segers prosecuted the case, with significant contributions from the Georgia Department of Corrections, Milledgeville Police Department, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
